FAQs

Many users these days prefer the simplicity and ease of use of active powered systems where the amplifiers are built into your speaker cabinets and are perfectly matched to the speakers' requirements. Active systems user fewer leads, mean you have no separate amplifiers to buy, rack and maintain, run cool and come with digital signal processing or five band equalisation built in. They really couldn't be easier to use and offer plug 'n play set up. Don't forget to buy waterproof covers if you plan to play outside.

Purists tend to prefer to use separate amplifiers and speakers because it enables them to choose exactly the amplifiers they want for each speaker and enables them to achieve higher SPL levels and have complete control over their sound. This is particularly true when driving 18" and 21" subwoofers, where passive systems tend to be preferred by professionals. Our 13kW RMS power amplifiers are light and affordable and when paired with our speaker management systems give you ultimate power levels and complete control over your sound.

A hybrid bundle offers you the best of both worlds - the convenience and ease of use of active powered speakers and the ultimate control and power of a passive system. For example you might want an active rig but with four passive wedge monitors driven by a 4 channel amplifier or maybe, our Orion 15" speakers in another area linked to your passive system via Bluetooth. It's your choice!

You will hear people tell you that a power amplifier needs to be double the speaker power but take care as it depends on what ratings you are reading! Read our quick guide to power amplifiers here to ensure your power amplifier matches your speakers and is the correct type of amplifier to give the power needed when the occasion or music asks for it.
